IPL Treatment: Made Simple

Looking for a non-invasive way to tackle sun damage, pigmentation, Rosacea or vascular lesions? Intense Pulsed Light laser treatment. What is it? How does it work? Is it for me? could be for you. You've probably heard the term "IPL," and you might even mistakenly call it an "IPL laser." While it uses light, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a unique and versatile skin treatment that could be the key to achieving your aesthetic goals.

So, what exactly is an IPL treatment, and how does it work its magic?

What is IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)?

IPL is a non-ablative, effective & versatile treatment that uses a broad-spectrum, high-intensity flash of light, much like a camera flash. This scattered light penetrates the second layer of your skin (the dermis) without injuring the top layer (the epidermis).

How Does the IPL Process Work?

  1. Targeting Pigment (Sun damage, Pigmentation, age spots etc.): The light is absorbed by melanin. The light energy converts to heat, which destroys the unwanted pigment cells. These spots darken initially, then naturally lighten and in some instances may flake off over the next one to two weeks, revealing clearer skin.

  1. Targeting Redness (Rosacea & Veins): The light is absorbed by hemoglobin (the red pigment in blood). The heat damages the wall of the targeted blood vessel, causing it to collapse and be absorbed by the body over time, reducing redness and the appearance of thread or spider veins.

Is IPL Right for You?

While IPL is a fantastic option for many, it's not universally suitable. The best wait to determine if IPL is the right treatment for you, we would recommend a consultation to discuss your specific concerns & skin type.
