The truth of managing an aesthetics clinic. The good, the bad and the ugly

Updated: Mar 2, 2023

Being the front man of a clinic like Azira comes with many benefits that most 24 year olds would bite your hand off for… but is it really as great as it looks?

Since a young age I’ve always been a leader, so naturally I found myself managing a bussling successful business, with customer relations, company culture & marketing at the forefront. Our staff are easy to oversee, no micromanaging necessary (is there anything worse🥴) but tough areas are more maintaining the brand image, marketing & customer experience. The overall success of Azira is ultimately the quality of our nurses injecting skills but you can’t have one without the other! This brings some pressure as, for example, Grace could have an incredible lip filler outcome but if I market it terribly, no one books in!

The well oiled machine that is Azira Aesthetics is made up of a lot of moving cogs. One thing that I feel patients always highlight when leaving reviews is our customer service and clinic atmosphere. Creating a friendly welcoming environment for customers is essential if you want repeat business, we’ve all been there when you walk in and feel judged, awkward or bad vibes… I know everyone has somewhere in mind from their own experiences🤷🏽‍♀️ People now often message with ‘Hi Ffion’ instead of ‘Hi Grace’, doesn’t this go to show how much impact your front of house has on your customer journey?!

I’ll be honest, staying on top of industry trends stresses me out! Making sure we are offering popular treatments while still being in line with our ethos, creating unique and engaging trendy content, reading & researching evolving legislation and industry jargon… it’s a lot! The balancing act of social media will be relevant to anyone reading this. It’s a never ending content creating production line that all businesses ‘need’ in order to be successful. Online image is not to be overshadowed as it can have enormous impact on business, however it’s also fine to be ‘old school’ and just be good at your job. These days everyone needs to be a photographer, videographer, tiktok dancer & brilliant injector; who can relate?😂

Then there’s the boring and dreaded… ADMIN! Paper work, invoicing, pricing, enquiries, stock ordering- these are all the things that are essential but go under the radar to everyone else working here. These are my jobs that have to be done, if I don’t order the filler Jess isn’t having her lips done tomorrow it’s that simple! Over the years I’ve developed a system to fine tune these issues but every business manager knows the admin is what makes a good business great! If your back of house is strong, it’s a powerful foundation for all the shining stars to stand on top of. That being said I do still forget to order this or that, ask Leanna how many times I’ve forgotten to order sterile gauze🤦🏽‍♀️

Overall Azira brings as much to my life as I bring to the business. I wear many hats under my ‘manager’ role but wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ve developed in ways I never could have imagined working such a diverse role with a lot being demanded from me Monday-Friday but this is my PSA to anyone trying to find their path in their 20’s… YOU’RE DOING JUST FINE! Stop worrying about how much money you make vs a peer, is my career growing as much as theirs etc.

"Success is not measured by what you accomplish but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds." - Orison Swett Marden.

… I guess the free treatments are a great bonus too😉🤷🏽‍♀️
